Results of the Gawler and Adelaide Plains Festival of Words Open Poetry Competition are in. This competition accepts poetry of all styles and genres, so it is pleasing to see three rhyming poems holding their own among the shortlisted adult entries. The competition theme was "Recovery".
1st Prize - "Salvation" by David Campbell (free verse)
2nd Prize - "An Honest Man" by James Kent (rhyming bush verse)
3rd Prize - "Healing" by Shelley Hansen (rhyming Shakespearean sonnet)
Commended:
"Determination" by Claire Watson (rhyming bush verse)
"Asperger's Eyes" by David Campbell (free verse)
"The Stranger" by Nathan Curnow (free verse)
"Raindrops" by Toni Brisland (free verse)

Thanks all - and yes, Terry, you are right about the sonnets. Very hard for a short poem to compete with longer entries, and impossible in a bush poetry competition.
I had entered a longer poem as well - interesting that the sonnet eclipsed it on this occasion.
