FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

The buzz was fizzing through her veins
She must hurry
Quick shower, shave her legs , and the new bikini awaited.
Denim cutoffs and a bandeau top.
Don't you just love Summer?
She was excited – must remember though not to speed.
Don't look too needy – seem a little aloof,
perhaps even slightly disinterested – just a chance meeting.
Pure coincidence.
Turn the key, seatbelt on, turn the key.
You're kidding – a flat battery.
Can you believe it?
Forty minutes later - on the road at last,
wind wisping through her hair,
sun streaming through the windscreen
'Hula Girl' blaring on the CD player.
Excitement and anticipation bubbling in her blood.
Grab the towel, race through the dunes to the white sands.
The surf roils and boils and ebbs and flows.
Misty spray rainbows glitter and glint along foam flecked shores.
The beach is empty.
No surfboard out on the waves.
Just a solitary gull hovering overhead.
T00 LATE!!!!!.
All that remains are footprints in the sand.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Mmmm ... this is definitely a "write your own ending" free verse!

Re: FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND
A walk back in time to a surfer chick and a surfer boy way back in the 60's when Little Patty and the Delltones were on the airwaves and life was young and beautiful.
