Well Trish and Eliza you got me thinking so i sent off an e mail today to the premier asking why such a simple measure cannot be implemented.

Don't really expect a positive reply but at least I feel like i have taken some action. Now for our local member.

'morning Eliza,
Yes, being an ex 'Crow Eater' myself, and soon to become one again I hope, I was about to mention the deposit system, they have tried to introduce it here but have met with some fierce resistance...from some organisations that would surprise you too! The Alice Springs council have introduced a container buy back scheme to try and stem the litter problem here and prove to the powers that it is a workable system but I am not sure how it is going. Some of the groups opposing it are the very people who could benefit from it, you know, people who "can't" get work, people who "need" some extra cash assistance to make the social service payments go further....and so on.

Hi Ross, great to hear from you, we may only watch and wait to see if Bob and others here can mobilise an email slam dunk on the local MPs involved.
If people power can pressurise a change in other areas, why not an environmental clean up.
Two of the largest organisations in the world are beneficiaries of the deposit system. The Lions' Club Inc., and The Scouting Association collect and store their pick-ups and drop-offs by the community in recycle sheds. The local sailing and surfing club have a bottle Drive every year in January, pick up from your door or yard. They wouldn't do it if there wasn't deposits and SA roads would be littered, too.

Anyway, I am pleased to read that you are coming over the border we/I need another poetic brain in our State.
Have you a destination or are you 'just passing through'?

i think there must be some kind of DNA change in the molicular structure of poeple when they 'become' MPs...

Thank again Ross
