THE LETTER

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Tue Feb 28, 2012 10:43 am

The Letter

She had written him a letter and then sent it – knowing better,
but determined to be fair and honest, unlike some she knew.
For he would not answer e-mails and refused to divulge details,
and her phone calls went unanswered – So what was a girl to do?

She suspected correspondence just might break through his despondence,
as well as reinforcing that about him she still dreamed.
But upon inner reflection she at last made the connection
that her thoughts were quite unwanted – like her company it seemed.

So one final missive she wrote and her own words here I will quote,
she posted it on Saturday to the last address she knew.
And a thought uncharitable crossed her mind – words from the Bible
one should try to do to others just as they do unto you.

I’ve sat waiting for a letter though I should have known much better
than to think that you would answer correspondence sent so far.
For I know that you hate writing, which was why I was inviting
you to phone me when you had the time to tell me where you are.

So it was not unexpected when my letter you rejected
and returned it via Aus Post marked not known at this address
But your manners are deploring, and your tardiness is boring
so I guess the share in Lotto now you won’t be getting.

Jess

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.
