Hi Nev. Fair enough. Still haven't seen an Aussie Bush Poet perform Shakesphere, Chaucer (or a duet with cup) or this O'Connor bloke's works at any Major Bush Poetry events or Comps in the last 20 years. Maybe they can't do it. Maybe they consider it so far removed from the basis of Aussie Bush Poetry such as we endear in masses in this country. Not sure. But waiting anxiously to hear Hamlet done in under 7 minutes in the Australian Bush Poetry Championships. Not being cynical, but I am failing to see the connection with these Pommy playwrites and our Aussie Bush Poetry scene. I am just a simple, middle class Bush Poet, so in layman's terms can you just lay out those connections again? Thanks Nev. It's all getting so confusing for us lower class and less educated writer/performers.
Thanks
Neil
ps. I like Lawson too. A perfect rhymer most the time.

In laymans terms Neil.
The connection with those pommy poets is simply the language. English, to be precise.
Mark O'Connor I take it was simply writing as a commentator. He celebrates performance poetry in all it's forms from hippie bookshop reading to poetry slams and also to bush poetry entertainment. His argument seems to be that performance poetry in Australia has kept poetry alive and revived popular interest in this art form.
I thought that you would agree with that.
