Slammin Slammin Slammin

Post by Bob Pacey » Mon Oct 15, 2012 7:53 am

Slamin Slamin Slamin
Hey what's the use of bloody gammin
Mate I ain't no good at Slamin
But I'm gonna have a go.

So here I'm Yellin Yellin Yellin
Screamin out the words I'm tellin
Getting louder by the second
Feels like me brain is gonna blow.

And it's Spinnin Spinnin Spinnin
Cause the whole damm crowd is grinnin
But there just ain't no meaning to it
It makes no sense you gotta know.

Cause its Buildin Buildin Buildin
To a fever pitch its buildin
Disjointed words revolving
like some broken clockwork doll.

And I'm Reachin Reachin Reachin
like a minister who's preachin
Trying to find that perfect moment
When time and rhyme stands still.

But it keeps Shiftin Shiftin Shiftin
Just out of my reach its liftin
And I can stretch and almost touch it
Make it mine and hold it so.

And you too can Makeit Makeit Makeit
look deep inside if you can take it
it will try to leave you speechless
Try to make you let it go.

So just grabbit grabbit grabbit
Make it yours just like a habit
And you'll get addicted to it
As the words spin high and low.

Yeah they fly higher higher higher
Fill your world with hearts desire
A release of all your tensions
Feel the peaceful rhythms flow.

Now it's slowin slowin slowin
The stories spent and now its going
There is nothing left inside you
Then it disappears in space and time.

Oh so Sadly Sadly Sadly
Man you wanted it so badly
Why did it have to leave you
Why does it have to go.

But its still there just Waitin Waitin Waitin
For your mind to start creatin
For it lives there deep inside you
in your heart forever more.

So now Quietly Quietly Quietly
Close your eye's it will burn brightly
For the spoken word is magic
And only you can make it grow.

Thank you Maureen the last time I went down I got a busking ticket and went to Southbank on the Saturday arvo I think I collected ten dollars and a long neck bottle of fourex.

Was amazed to see the people in such a hurry sort of stop and look then go and sit under a tree for a while and listen.

Cheers Bob

Only one ??? What's wrong with all those ones that you do at the park. Any of those could go in a poetry slam.

If a poetry slam item has to be a particular style then doesn't that go against the idea of the slam ,which is to challenge any supposed authorised literary value.

don't know if I should post this here. if it needs moving John or Heather can do it please.

I had my name down to contend (or defend) in the Rhyme vs Slam at the National back a little while. This was my defence.

Rhyme Vs Slam
 Zondrae King (Corrimal ) 03/12

I must wait til my name is heard.
This competition, is absurd.
I’m like to pose my argument
and show my sweat has been well spent
in writing all my work in rhyme.
Now time keeper, don’t cut my time!

See anyone can take a few,
well chosen words, yes even you
then write them. Each uneven line
may give some praise with words divine
about the moon, or their true love,
say rhyming poems need the shove.

I’d like to meet the person that
said rhyming, now is just old hat
or out of date and just not done.
They’ve tried it and found it’s not fun
it’s hard work - past it’s prime, not me.
With no rhyme it’s not poetry.

Now you of the young generation
align with a quite a different nation.
You talk like Aussies every day
but when you rap or stir some way
you don’t use your native accent
a fact that I will long lament.

Why do you choose the Yankee slang?
say each vowel with Yankee twang?
and on each word of gangster rap
declare your independent (crap!).
Your Uniform is low slung pants
a baseball cap on backward slants.

So tell me why the wrong way round?
Can’t proper hat designs be found?
Then from your cap a logo screams
but is it of our sporting team?
Cricket, Rugby, Aussie Rules?
or even League, don’t be the fools.
Now why not down home basket ball
we have our own league after all.

The Hawks, The Kings - so many more
Why do you display the teams off shore?
Now you have read (or probably Not)
A poem with a thrilling plot
That zapped you with it’s magic spell.
It’s you now I would like to tell

that Rapping is an ancient form.
It started out to be the norm
for Minstrels of an age gone by
Who entertained both low and high.
There was a reason for their rap
I tell you true – this isn’t crap.

It’s them who first invented rhyme
to help the stories of the time
to be remembered, all you see
they couldn’t read like you and me
They were the newsmen of their time
and they’re the ones, invented rhyme.

So when you ‘dis’ my rhyming word
just think that you’ll be thought absurd.
N don’t you talk that black man talk
unless you want to walk the walk.
Those gangsters, most end up in jail,
no heroes. They just whine and wail.

Maybe there should be more to this but I felt it was long enough. Have a great weekend... I know I will.
Kangaroo Valley here we come.
