True Friends

Is there a friend within your heart
For whom you deeply care?
Does sorrow touch you when you part
But still your joy is there?

And do they tiptoe through your dreams
To dance upon your mind?
And are there days when it just seems
They’ve left you far behind?

But when at last they re-appear
It’s like the sun’s come out!
They drive away your pain and fear
And soothe each nagging doubt.

Perhaps it is their special smile
That says so much to you
And makes your heart glow for a while
And feel the way you do

Then do you find that they are there
In times of quiet reflection?
And that you often say a prayer
For their Divine protection?

Time has no claim upon true friends
Nor age, nor style or gender
For what remains when all else ends?
But love – in all her splendour!

Then, at the last, this I shall say;
That I have shared with you
A love, as bright as endless day
Immortal...... deep......and true.
