The sounds of silence
Maureen Clifford © The Scribbly Bark Poet …
The silence is pervasive – the sky is everywhere
a place of crossing places and red dust in the air,
a spirit place - with meaning in every rock and tree,
a place part of their dreaming and how it used to be.
And if one listens quietly they’ll hear the ancient song
the throb of the bullroarer, the stamping of the throng
of black and dusty feet that shuffle on this bora ground,
but open up your mind to hear for none are now around.
As darkness wraps its velvet cloak around this sacred site
there catching fire above are fireflies flickering in the night.
