Birds and Beasts and Night and Day

There's day birds and night birds. It doesn't seem quite right -
There's never any day bats. They only fly at night.
Kangaroos will snooze at noon, but move at dusk and dawn,
But search for bats throughout the day, and you'll remain forlorn.

Platypus are hard to spot at any time of day.
The river keeps their secrets, and it hides them well away.
I'd like to watch them work and play. It doesn't seem quite right -
While bats are highly visible throughout the livelong night.
