PLAYFUL PLESIOSAURS

Plesiosaurs were aquatic reptiles, and were an important part of the marine ecology from the end of the Triassic period 220 million years ago until the end of the Cretaceous 65 million years ago. Their remains have been found on every continent. A typical plesiosaur had a long neck, a broad body, four large flippers and a relatively short tail. They look a bit like a snake with a turtles body and dolphins flippers.

Did you know that we have 3 at Ipswich swimming in the Bremer River ? Stoney, Ippy and Limey come out to play every night just on dusk.

Did you know there are three Dinosaurs now resting in our river?
One has huge long whiskers and he just might make you quiver
with fright when first you see him but he’s gentle as a lamb.
Why don’t you come and say G’day – I know for sure I am.

They’re rather shy these dinosaurs –they come out when the light
is fading, never in the day - joggers would get a fright
not to mention all the little dogs out on their daily walk
and I somehow think that doggies do not talk dinosaur talk.

They seem to like the company and once they’ve sussed you out,
cavort and play right at your feet a treat to see no doubt.
Mind you, it takes a little while before their faces show
but I think they’re watching from the muddy waters down below.

Now I will share my secret but a secret it must be
we don’t want people coming, scaring off these frisky three
They don’t mind having visitors as long as they’re not loud
but I’m not sure how they’d handle having a noisy big crowd.

You’ll have to come to Ipswich if dinosaurs you would see
and please be quiet as a mouse and then you’ll see all three.
There’s Ippy and there’s Stoney and young Limey – he’s a lark
he flips and spins and dives and rolls – by far the brightest spark.

Their home is in the Bremer at the top end of the town
and they really are well hidden in the river waters brown.
They are down near the waterfall , the second viewing deck
but remember - keep it secret – and I’ll know because I’ll check.
