That's bonzaaaa Manfred. It is so good that I hesitate to mention....(but not for long enough to not) that do you think that 'incline' would be a better word than 'decline'....re the floods & fire etc? Just a thought, given our recent increased spate of natural disasters.

I really love this work. It is crisp & to the point & drives home a much needed message. (You have a much better grasp of brevity than I. In fact, everyone has, it seems.)

PS Neville....always rest on the power of one.

Good on you Manfred, like the poem but mate it is pretty easy to see that you don't live in Sydney.
I am afraid "She wont be right" here and hasn't been for years. Mateship's code left this town about thirty years ago and now you don't look at anyone when you walk down the street let alone say g'day to strangers.
There are numerous suburbs and districts that you have to be very, very careful about going to and some you simply don't go to at all. You wouldn't think of walking down George Street in the city after dark if you value your life. Sydney is now divided into separate enclaves which are growing in concentration and number at a rapid rate.
Our police are frightened as well they should be and run the risk of being assaulted stabbed or shot when dealing with certain groups. Drive by shootings, murders and violent crime is the norm.
So while I enjoyed your poem I think we have now reached the point where we really have to have a long hard think about Australia and where we want it to go because for us in Sydney at least you are speaking of a country (very sad to say) that ceased to exist decades ago.

Thanks Mauzie, was great catching up with yourself, Heather and Darren today.

Goodonya Glenny & thanks for your comments ... I respectfully disaggree in the decline/incline. The reason is that "decline" is more definitive, ie, WON'T bring us down, whereas ...
"incline" DOES (even slightly) bring us down ...

Vic, I hear what you're saying. Maybe constant reminding of where we should be could have some impact?
Don't really know the answers to that one Mate ... :(

Spot on Bob. And what do they find under that overburden?? Gold!
(I'm up for auction if anyone wants to bid. There's no reserve. All my reserve has fled)....fledded...fleed...NEVILLE.....??

See Bob, I reckon the reason most folks won't admit to being wrong is...beneath the crust of self vanity...lies fear & a lack of confidence. Oh the unnecessary inner wrangling we put ourselves through. It really is much easier on everyone to just say 'Oops. I mighta got that wrong' than launch into an ongoing battle of wits, that steadily gathers momentum...until no one recalls what the hell the original 'sin' even was.....wish I was a dog. They seem to have it sussed...
