Nice one Marty. I tend to agree with you.

I have been just popping in to read the occasional poem lately and staying out of the other threads, but they can be addictive, especially when it gets quiet. I'm also a bit like Zondrae. I don't like to post poems that I'm not all that happy with, and if I am happy with them then I think they might be worth putting into a comp. Catch 22. But having said that, I'm just not writing anywhere near as much as I used too. I think for two years or so I wrote at least one a week and slowly I just ran out of puff.

I agree in the main Marty. We could probably benefit from a bit more interest in presenting poems, although I think it is better to work on quality rather than try and build up sheer volume of output.

I don't think it does any harm to try some other forms occasionally for comparison, I don't think for a minute that these things will overtake the main style of "bush" poetry, they are only of passing interest.
Did you know that Henry Kendall wrote sonnets, and he is listed as " one of the greats who came before " as you have put it.

I think the main factor that affects some people in posting is the competition rules that forbid pre-published entries. Speaking for myself, I've had other things to attend to and haven't had time to think about verse.
I don't think that a supposed lack of group focus is a problem. The wandering themes of the banter can provide a source of inspiration for poetry ideas. And poetry comes from observation and person to person interaction. We are looking for poetry not formulating government policy.

I think you make reference to the need for courtesy as an ingredient for our group enjoyment. I couldn't agree more.

And a final thought. I think that your poem posted here shows that you have made some good progress in construction of the forms.Keep up the good work.

G/day Marty,
I have only been popping in for a quick look now and again as I have a few things on at the moment.
But there is no doubt that the published rule thing has upset the apple cart a bit.
In the past a lot really good poems were posted before they were entered in comps and no one seemed
over fussed about it, but like the carbon tax things have changed now.
But I agree with what you're saying.

Cheers Terry

OK, I'll stop chatting so much, but without all the chit-chat to fill the gaps, there'll just be an echo on the forum ... forum ... forum ...

I agree Kym, we chat on the forum because we don't have a poem to present. It's not a case of choosing chat over poetry and the silence would be defeaning if we didn't chat.

Neville is right, the chat on the forum often inspires a poem and I can count 10 of my poems that were inspired by chat on the forum including the two recipe ones that I re-posted earlier, plus a couple that I wrote based on the style of others I read here and two from homework topics. I have written about 55 poems so that is a fair chunk of my writing. Funnily enough they are the ones that I have written quickly too.

Writing or not writing often depends on what else is going on in your life at the time. Lots of people have a few things on at the moment.

What about a yarn? Not many yarns lately. Can't use comps for an excuse, either.
