Chin up Nev old mate. We all feel this way at times. And then some tiny expression of human kindness casts a welcome light on our shadowed souls. Best I can suggest is to give yourself some of that kindness...micro gifts, like taking 10 minutes to revisit a happy place...somewhere/thing that you enjoy just for you . Accept that you do indeed deserve it, & watch out for 'analysis paralysis.'
I've had a cow of a day/week so I may not be making much sense. I'll try better when the cells have refurbished. You're a bonza bloke.

Wasn't that long ago some of the local religions railed against the evils of alcohol. I think there are many throughout the World that still do. The Bible records ONE death attributed to alcohol, yet countless MILLIONS have perished due to WATER!!! And that's ALSO in the Bible!!

How many lives were lost due to Noah's flood? More than ONE!!
(And talk about 'boat people', I'll bet he never landed on Christmas Island)

And then there's Pharaoh's troops swallowed up in the Red Sea ...

Water is evil ...

Just a passing thought stirred up by Noel's verse. I think that if we are concerned about the effects of various " religious " activities it is reasonable to examine thei following question. Are the people we are observing, acting contrary to their faith's foundations or are they acting in accordance with their faith's foundations.


If people are using cruel violence, being sexual predators, being avaricious thieves, cheats, deceivers and liars, and these things are against their faith's foundation teaching, Then that says nothing about the merits of the faith. It is just one more example of the usual human capacity for perversion.
If, on the other hand, these things are allowed, encouraged or commanded by their faith's, foundation teaching then, Houston, we have a problem.

There is a story Manfred, about Winston Churchill being at a function with diginitaries when an attractive young lady came round offering alcoholic drinks to the guests.
When she offered a drink to some high churchman , he recoiled in horror and said " I'd rather commit adultery than touch alcohol "

Even the atheistic socialists accuse each other of being revisionists. And the atheistic socialists are quite capable of maiming, torturing, killing and destroying, all for their victims own good of course, so that their victims can enjoy the delirious joy of living in a socialist " democratic" paradise ruled by a dictator who passes the rule onto his son, who passes the rule onto his son .( That routine sounds familiar , is that Marxist/Leninist doctrine? obviously it is in the interpretation ).

I heard some professor ( on the car radio, didn't catch his name ) giving a lecture on fanaticism. I think fanaticism is mainly what you are referring to in your objections to faith. He said something like, fanatics don't have a life of their own , their entire time is dedicated to arranging everyone else's life.
I thought that was a very important insight.
It was a fascinating lecture, if I can get a recording I will keep it for reference.

Meanwhile I think you and I will never agree on certain things. I only wanted to make some points, I'll leave it at that. I have no desire to arrange your life. Wouldn't happen anyway.
