Wow, another talented artist in our midst. That's terrific Neville, compliments Maureen's poem nicely. I remember your sketch of the little aboriginal girl, loved that one too.

Thanks Maureen, not hiding , I just thought a poetry site should give most space to poetry.

I'll be interested to see how you go in the drawing class. :) Apparently among the continentals in past times, watercolour painting was known as the English vice. :D
I reckon two of the greatest watercolourists ever were English, J.M. W.Turner and John Singer Sargent. Turner pioneered the way to colour and light for the renowned French Impressionists like Monet and Renoir.

Thanks Marty. You can do it :) you just have to learn to see, as a poet you're well on the way to learning how to see.

Thanks Glenny. those emails are tricky things. :)

Thanks Leonie. Maureen's poem reminded me of that image. We shouldn't be seeing sights like that in Australia or thinking to write poems like Maureen's, if you know what I mean.
Henry Lawson wrote a very well known poem called " The Faces in the Street " I wonder has anything changed since Lawson's day? The revolution that he dreamed of didn't happen.

A very thoughtful and thought provoking poem Maureen. I don't see it in my little country town and going to the city as I will do tomorrow, is quite an eye opener.

It is and sadly so common.

Coming back on the train today from visiting Mum - (my 4 hour travel pilgrimage) I was hit up twice by really young kids asking for money. They didn't particularly look like they were homeless more like they were trying to boost their pocket money. IMO if??? they were chasing a $$ they should have perhaps been looking to do something for it - as in offering to wash cars, mowing lawns or something useful . I refused them both for my thought was that it was possibly booze or drug money they were trying to get and in the space of less than 5 minutes they must have approached about 15 people most of whom parted with some change. Great work if you can get it.

I don't mind helping anyone but these little con artists make my blood boil. I am just getting old maybe I am also getting cranky
