I agree completely Bob. It either rhymes or it does not.
How can I tell you so you understand.

If it is slant RHYME , IT RHYMES, if it is near rhyme THEN IT RHYMES, if it is perfect rhyme THEN IT RHYMES, if it is sight RHYME then it rhymes. None of that contradicts what you have said above.
;) :) :)
A black dog is a dog, a white dog is a dog, a brown dog is a dog, a cat IS NOT a dog.
:)

A poor old bloke from Yeppoon
Got bit on the leg by a snake.
When they said does it hurt?
he said ' just a bit'
but I think I will go and lie down.

That does NOT rhyme. Different animals.

A poor old bloke from Yeppoon
drank rum till he fell in a swoon.
When he woke much later
and struck up his lighter,
he sadly blew up with a boom.

Very silly and corny, but it does RHYME. even though some are partial rhymes.

Like the dogs, different colours but still the same animal.

Yes Dave, I've read some of Emily Dickinson.

Of course someone will bring up the irrelevent argument that Emily Dickinson was not an Australian bush poet  She was certainly a fine poet and far ahead of a lot of others. If anyone thinks they can do better than Emily Dickinson, then 'ave a go !!!!

To each their own Nev, Perhaps full rhyme would have explained my position more clearly but then someone would probably twist that to meet their ends as well.

I know about all the forms of so called rhymes people use no matter how famous or well known but it is a bit like shooting arrows a the target a bullseye is a bullseye and near enough but just outside the line is not.

Now I know someone will start quoting famous authors who used the so called versions but that to me does not make them right.

Bit like the "Kings New Suit " which i have used before.

Stubborn old cuss ain't I but thats just my thoughts.

Oh dear Bob, we'll have agree to disagree I think. I'm talking about oranges and you're talking about apples. As you said ....to each their own. ;)

I have to agree with Bob and Manfred, Nev. if I was judging it in a comp, my first comment would be 'does not rhyme'. Unless of course it was not a competition for rhyming poetry. Even as a songwriter, I wouldn't be comfortable with those words as rhymes. I keep reading it, but keep failing to see it.

Sorry

Neil

I can't agree or disagree with Manfred 'cause I don't know what he is saying

I don't think that I can say it any clearer than that Neil.

I'm with you Nev . . . just reading last weekends Review pages about a book of poems by Stephen Edgar where he is lauded for rhyming "phantoms" with "tantrums".

It's good to look past the rule book and outside the prism of what's deemed "acceptable" sometimes.

Cheers, Marty

ps. enjoyed your 4by ;)
