I think it is quite reasonable that only the military should possess military weapons.
I think that all the discussion and attention to firearms misses the main point.
Please bear with me if I refer to an ancient story. The story of Cain and Abel. In this story Cain murders his brother Abel, why? because Cain is criticized for wrongdoing and Abel is commended for being correct.
Do you see the point ? (No guns involved ).
The problem is about people who are disgruntled, being told they are wrong or being told "no " and they imagine this gives them a reason to rage against their fellow man and lash out with deadly force. The great EGO must never be thwarted or there will be consequences.
That's where the problem lies.
They can get rid of the guns, then the weapons will be explosives, get rid of explosives, the weapons will be incendiaries, get rid of incendiaries the weapon will be poison, get rid of poison the weapon will be a car or truck , clubs axes, spears whatever.

Thats a pretty worn old argument Nev ! Making such weapons less available can only be a move in the right direction.

Your right Marty, their gun culture is quite different to ours - thank god.
I have never owned a gun or felt the need for one despite most of my life being spent in remote areas. I've been with other blokes who did have guns but ever felt the need myself.
One thing I have noticed is that all the crazies I've known, and there's been a few, had guns. But of course most of the blokes I've know who had guns, were responsible people.
