What about some prose?

I had written him an email all about a certain female bronco-busting bareback rider from way out past Camooweal. And I sent the email to him through a bloke I reckoned knew him, just ‘on spec’ addressed as follows: ‘Peely@greatsexappeal’. And an answer came directed in a manner unexpected, for I think the same was written from a pub in Marble Bar. ’Twas a mate of his who wrote it, and verbatim I will quote it: ‘Peely’s on the road performing and we don’t know where he are.’ I confess to you quite freely that I often think of Peely entertaining at the festivals where great performers go. I can see them all applauding his performance and rewarding him with accolades and compliments that most folk never know. For the stage brings friends to meet him and their laughing voices greet him, from the youngest of the children to the oldest grandpapas, and I know that he’s pursuing something he delights in doing, and that’s all a man might wish for as he sleeps beneath the stars.

I'm not that good at free verse,
though I try and try and try -
rhyme and metre seems to dominate my work.
Songs and poems flow from my pen,
but then again,
I almost never find free verse
amongst the things I write.
Perhaps one day I'll find some written down
that haven't come from anyone but me.
We'll just have to wait and see.

Is David having a dig at you John ? He writes so nice I can never figure it out.

Hey John I watched a show on SBS called If You Are The One

It is made in China but they are looking for Australian contestants. Oh did I mention it is a dating programme ?

Might be the answer to both our prayers.

Just a bit of promotion for one of our top performers, Bob...in more than one direction, perhaps. Although there was an underlying, somewhat provocative, thought to ponder...bush poetry could be described as chopped-up prose.

(Incidentally, I hear the bronco-buster from out Camooweal way is quite a charmer!)

Cheers
David

Dennis did that sometimes - wrote verse as prose.

Henry Lawson did a series called "Country Crumbs" where the poem was presented in prose format as David has done here too, so Dennis was not unique in that regard.

Sounds like I should be on my way to Camoweal, David ;) Perhaps my notoriety is also spreading

Things on the lady front aren't going all that badly for me at the moment, Bob. I am talking to some nice ones - I will just have to see if something more eventuates.
