Yeah perplexes me to the point of mockery (you could call that a whinge) - it's like up here every year it's normal to get a shitload of rain in the monsoon months. Being a traditionalist I still call it a flood, but now every news presenter, weather boffin and climate scientist or anybody deemed worthy of airing their analysis on such a perfectly normal non-phenomenon now insist on calling it a weather event.

I think it's an affliction that's spreading - I did some research and found it's a rare disorder called syllablitis where the sufferers become brainwashed into being unable to use simple time-honoured common sense single syllable words and instead feel the uncompromisable urge to replace them with bland jargonistic gobbledy-gook. An early symptom of the onset of syllablitis is where one repeatedly insists upon using 'absolutely' instead of the traditional 'yes'.

There is a cure for syllablitis though - sufferers should be encouraged to basically shut the f*#^ up.

Matt, George Orwell called it Newspeak. (A language designed to control and manipulate our thoughts ( rhymes with full kit).
He also identified Oldspeak, which mean English; a language that isn't Newspeak.

I know what you mean Marty. I worked with a young bloke on the patrol car who insisted on using " affirmative " and " negative " on the radio. I said to him that negative and affirmative sounded similar and could be confused. Yes and No sound different and clear. Further I suggested that it would be important if the question was, is the suspect armed with a gun, that the answer is clearly yes or no.
He agreed.
then he said that he preferred to use affirmative and negative as they sounded officially important and cool.
I saw him on the news not long ago, he is now a high ranking commanding officer. no surprise

News readers don't read the news anymore - they give commentary, opinions and emotions. One you hear often is "cruel and heartless thieves".

A lot of cricketers and footballers use "obviously" nearly every time you hear them interviewed. Anyone else notice that?

What doesn't rhyme ?
The Oxford English Dictionary says " rhyme, identity of sound between words or their endings"
Every third line of mine ends in an identical sound i.e. rhyme.

Shakespeare's famous soliloquy for Hamlet doesn't rhyme, that IS poetry.

AND, it's NOT Bush Poetry ...
