I wouldn't worry too much about supposed flow or rough bits Maureen, ( I don't know what that means here.)

What I think is important in this poem Maureen is that it is a poem, something heartfelt and strident in indignation. When we are impassioned and indignant we are not necessarily going to speak flowingly or smooth, more likely twitchy and irregular, stopping and starting and intent on the most flaring words.

The form in poetry ( metre or syllables ) is like the tailors dummy it just holds the clothing in place, it's the clothing on top that is the main piece, it mostly follows the form but is various colours shapes and decorations.

You have something you want to "get out" here Maureen, just get it out :)

I haven't whimsically or fickly changed my understanding of some poetic things, it is a process of learning. A person in grade 12 has a different point of view than someone in kindergarten. I do try to progress, as hard as that is for an old duffer.

I do change my undies , so they are always clean. ;)

but generally the sad truth is you don’t see him at all.
I think perhaps we do see him Maureen and hopefully for most of us we see him through eyes that accept his differences rather than fear them. Those with a racist bent see his colour, or his mode of dress, his place of worship ... ... and his differences make them afraid.
Good poem ... important topic.
