I reckon we might be on a winner here by the interest shown

although Maureen has gone awful quiet all of a sudden.

Loved the poem, Stephen!! As a Foundation member of the GC Suns and a Hugh Storm supporter (Loved that line!) I really enjoyed it! Well written to strike on a couple of levels. Thanks.

Oh I pinched that jingle from the Manchester Football Club Nev. I never played but used to enjoy watching the game as it had the same basic rules as Hockey except for the kicking and hitting and oh the headers of course. I used to love listening to the fans chant out their songs during the games and I'm a big Benny Hill Fan as well.

G'day Stephen,

Cracker of a poem I'm going to print it and keep it. I should have known that such an educated gentleman, as yourself, would understand my distaste of most codes of football. There is the round ball of course which is a totally different basket of skills.

I missed the bit about the calander so I have edited this bit in.... The books. Heather, go across the faces,... didn't you know that?

I liked your poem Stephen. I was pleased to see you posting something again on the site, I haven't seen any of yours for a while.

Funny poem Stephen. Loved the line about The Storm handing their cup back.

BIFF  bring back the biff - Oh I watched the Footy Show for years - kind of lost interest once Alfie Langer gave the game away, but warmed to Darren Lockyer but seems he too is giving it away.

Great win last night    WAHOO

State of Origin

Must have watched a different game Marty

We had them I could taste it
The game was there on ice.
When Thurston crossed beneath the sticks
Queensland had them in a vice.

Then Yow Yeh scored off Cooper Cronk
and made Morris look a dill.
The pain that showed on Dugans face
was such a bitter pill.

Then Pearce strolled in off Birds neat pass
and my heart began to quickly flutter.
and when Jennings streaked away to score
My hopes crumbled in the gutter.

But Queenslanders just don’t give in
and we recovered from the shock.
Cause the game can still be won or lost
while there’s still time on the clock.

Thurston fired that pass to Lockyer
and hit Billy on the fly.
The blues they had no answer
as he crashed over for the try.

I relish now the look of grief
as Ricky stormed off in disgrace
and the Blues all hung their heads in shame
as the crowd went off their face.

Another win for Queensland
on Lang Parks hallowed ground.
The roar rebounded from the grandstands
which vibrated with the sound.

The battle moves to Sydney Town
where the roaches live and breed.
But this Canetoads armies primed and ready
and they are looking for a feed.

The blues will make some changes
almost pick a whole new side.
But the battles lost already
if they can’t find a bit of pride.

Six in a row we hear the call
and the Blues they shake in fear
for the battle cry of Queenslander
will be the last thing that they hear.
