I heard a character in a film say, and I paraphrase as it is over 30 years since I saw it - there's no use a woman having a prerogative if she doesn't exercise it.
It was in relation to changing one's mind, but I would think the idea would extend to poetic licence - there's no use having it if we don't use it every now and then!
