I had heard about the chloroform, somewhere.

All the pictures of young Victoria are not photos but paintings, if the artist wanted to become Sir... of the Royal Academy, then I assume that it wouldn't do to be producing an image," warts and all ". There's not a hint of a smile in any pictures of her, right up to the photography era. Even as a teenager, she looks cold and imperious to me,.
And she spoke German at home, scary woman. ;) :)

Of course she was imperious Neville, she was the Queen! Look at it from poor Victoria's point of view: she ws an only child; not allowed to play with other children; had a domineering, interferring mother; was queen at 18 and had nine children!

Check out the portrait of the 24-year old Queen Victoria, by Franz Xaver Winterhalter.

She was also a bit of an artist herself Neville. I found a self portrait while browsing.
