ADDICTS - ANONYMOUS

I suppose we should show sympathy for those folks with a habit
that can cause ruination to their lives, so glad that I don’t have it
for one just can’t imagine daily, hankering for a fix
and with social interactions I suspect the two don’t mix.

It seems across the country there are folks who have this bent.
It appears worldwide, now seems to be most places that folks went.
There would always be somebody, somewhere, trying to strut their stuff,
and there are some who just ignore it..Others couldn’t get enough.

There are those who might have tried it, and thought ‘this is not for me’
and there are others who have dabbled and truly found ecstasy.
There are some who travel miles around this country for their fix
and fence sitters – quite divided – not sure which one is their mix.

You can call it by its many names, though at end of day it still remains
as something of an addiction – and it gives you for your pains
a high, a great elation then it dumps you in deep despair.
But can you give it up? – Don’t think so – other souls are lost out there.

It’s out there, you can buy it – though ‘tis not a mainstream sale
and you might have to search just a bit – it’s all beyond the pale
to some people, they abhor it – they don’t want it on their streets.
But the folks who are right into it – are always happy to meet.

They don’t mind sharing what they’ve got, they’re generous to a fault
and it’s all done with good humour – not one soul gets out of sorts.
If someone has found the good stuff – then they’re quick to tell the others
so that all can share the highs it brings. Good friends these addict brothers.

So best I confess to you all that I share this addiction
Do I need help? Do I need saving? Is there a prescription
that will cure this ill? I think not, unless perhaps apathy
or total disinterest by my peers – that would perhaps stop me.

But as it stands, as I sit writing in this gloomy tone
at least I know it’s not just me – I’m happily not alone.
Now don’t go glassy eyed and stare like a headlight bedazzled rabbit
I can’t help my addiction to this Poetry writing habit.
