Rugby League
The Greatest Game of All

Now why would a man play Aussie Rules
I just can't work it out.
When it comes down to the final pinch
the game just has no clout.

The finesse involved is minimal
to kick a ball is not a skill
and the tight tight pants that the players wear
make a man look like a dill.

And union can't excite mate
too much kicking there for me.
Tries should be the way to win
not with field goals all worth three.

But there is one game that thrills me
that sets my heart on fire.
The passion that they play with
fair fills me with desire.

Yes rugby leagues the game for me
excitement plus for one and all.
The hits, the one on one defence
the clashes off the ball.

A game that lets all players shine
be they slim or short or tall.
Passing , running, tackling, kicking
this game has got it all.

And it's game that's played with honour
no melees are on the card.
Be we playing for our team or country
its just plain fair and tough and hard

And rugby league is international
many countries field a side.
A test match win against the Poms
will always fill my heart with pride

A history that's unbeatable
we have our player hall of fame.
But no matter just how great they were
not one is bigger than the game

Yes Aussie Rules may thrill Victorians
and though some for union always call.
Rugby leagues the game for me mate
" The Greatest Game Of All ".

I confess I like watching league the strong and masculine touch
I’ve never understood the game and don’t care all that much
who gets the ball, who holds the ball, or who scores a touch try
I purely sit and watch it for the trim taut butts that I espy . 8-) 8-)

How do you reckon a bush poets ( Male Only ) calendar would go Nev. You could hide a lot behind that book and I would only need one of those pocket dictionaries.

What a money raiser for charity.

Now that's a damn fine idea Bob - the blokes on the SRS committee did one a few years ago and it was a real hit around the area. The sheep of course were extremely attractive but it was the blokes that set the hearts racing,

Amazing what one can hide behind the old Akubra - and the site of all those mostly cute backsides perched on a post and rail with just their hats and boots on was enough to send some of the females into a lather of perspiration. Then there was the one on the old Fergie and the one shearing, and then loading the wool press...oh that was a goody..... ;)

It is a cruel fact of life that as the majority of females age their backsides become prone to cellulite and become somewhat well you know..... but the boys don't seem to get it - oh no they don't.

I don't know how a male calendar will go Bob, include me out, unless you want Mr. January as Moby Dick the White Whale.

No Marty I didn't say I was too lazy to do it I said it would not be tantalizing...terrifying though would be a distinct possibility without a doubt, but doubt it would help increase sales. Now Neville has put forward an interesting thought Bob we could combine Wild Life/Animals and Poets there together in the all together so to speak.

Neville may fancy Whales, and of course I like the Ovine creatures as well as Dogs as does Leonie and Bob, Kym likes Horses, seem to remember Sue saying she was a Cat person, Bill is a bit partial to the old bovine beast and seem to remember Marty was into Fish...and Glenny is partial to Crocs......look at the possibilities we have here.

G'day all,

when I saw the 'Greatest' game of all I expected a poem about Cricket. Then Peter Mace posted the details of a poetry competition centred around cricket. I thought ooh, could this be a sign. MM I'll have to think about that one for a bit. Oh and you've all forgotten I'm a 'cat' person. Mind you I love frogs and birds and I really don't mind horses as long as there is a nice high fence between me and them.
(It's those flamin horse poems that make me grumpy}
