Been In hospital as you can see and haven't been posting much, but this poem came out of my stay at st George hospital
hope you are well.

Cut, Sealed De- Livered

You never know what's around the corner
and what end of day will bring.
At the ripe old age of eighty
you can't think of every thing
So when me Doctor says, what's wrong
.you're looking rather crook
We had better run a scan or two
and take a closer look

The diagnosis not that good
your liver count is low.
We had better run another scan
and check where your blood does flow
They settled on me Liver
it was a sad and sorry sight
And if my theory serves me well
your in for one almighty fight

Doc said “The big C had
invaded an Op. your only chance
I wish I could deliver better news
removal a must, to stop its quick advance.
Well, me mind went into overdrive
Doc, I'm as fit as a “Mallee bull”
just check my fitness card,
That maybe so the doc. explained,
But your standing in an Indo, slaughter yard.

They stunned me quick, O thank the Lord
I never felt a blooming thing
And wake up in recovery
I'm sure I could hear Gods angel sing
I was hooked up to all these gadgets
like they do a Formula One
I'm certain that the liver taken
must have weighed at least a ton.

They assigned me to this Scottish nurse
her dialogue not understood
She said I had to have sex every day
and more so if I could
A young Kenya nurse named Johnny
quickly put my troubled mind at ease
She means you have to drink water
six glasses daily if you please.

On a daily basis the vampire nurse
would come and take my precious blood
then the stabbing stabbing needles
I had thoughts for Kevin Rudd
But overall the care was great
I had no reason to complain
Especially when they dis-coupled me
from that waste disposal drain

Back home now I'm feeling fine
and in recovery mode
The Doc says day by day my lad
but you may still strike some gravel road.
One things for sure I'm staying clear
of nurse Donna and her loyal crew
Her sexy ways could seal my fate
and I might not reach eighty two.

Glad you're still with us Mate. At 82 still a spring chicken - a but lily livered perhaps and maybe a bit of a bantam weight now something has been taken out but if you can still talk and think about sex - according to my old Dad you're still living and have a ways to go

Baby steps now Mate for a little while till you're feeling good again.

Take care of yourself - sending you a Queensland Cuddle. Feel the love ;)

Cheers

Maureen

G'day all,

If you knew Noel, you would not be surprised that - only two weeks after having 2/3 of his liver removed, he asked his wife to find out what our current 'homework' topic was. He is getting round on his own already and, apart from looking a little thin, he looks like his usual self.

Onya mate, we need you at the Illawarra Breakfast Poets. Our meeting rooms have been refurbished and we will be having a re-opening party next Wednesday.

Hi Noel
Hope all goes well as the process goes on, and that you continue to improve in leaps and bounds!
Bet that put the wind up you - sex every day!!! :o ;) Definite incentive to get better!!
And good to see you still have your sense of humour!!

Take care, and just continue taking one step at a time - we will be waiting for you, and for further poetic takes on your journey!

See that's the thing about poetry people no matter how down we may be we can still see the humour in just about every situation.

Keep on Keeping on Noel. The Scottish accent would have been enough for me to start with it has a beautiful lilt to it.

Cheers Mate Bob

Thanks all for your thoughts. It was the one thing that kept me going in hospital that so many freinds came to see me or sent cards. My next door neighbour of the same vintage has had a heart operation and has completly lost his memory, so i am possibly very lucky so far.

Hey Noel,

remember that $50 I loaned you the week before you went into hospital?
No? you don't remember?

Oh well - I guess your memory is ok after all.
