THE MEANING OF DAFFODILS
The Daffodils are beautiful here this year, inspired me to write.
THE MEANING OF DAFFODILS
Sue Pearce©
"It's a flower that represents friendship,"she recalls loving words said that day,
as they walked hand in hand by the river, the daffodils danced on display.
All alone now she traces those footsteps, yellow flowers her memory will tease,
and she yearns for the one that's been taken, as the daffodils sway in the breeze.
For this place holds the fondest of memories, she recalls now a young boy and girl,
in the spring of their life finding romance, caught up in loves emotional whirl.
Reminiscing of days in the silence, on this morning that's clouded by grief,
for as spring is a time of renewal, she's reminded that life is so brief.
Many years they were blessed with each other, side by side carried life's heavy load.
Watched their children develop fine standards, as they overcame life's winding road.
But the river rolls on with it's journey, and each life it must come to an end.
For as sure as the spring speaks of blossoms, he'll remain in her heart her best
friend.
Mother Nature brings solace to troubles, there's a yearning to linger on here,
as the dawning of spring, earth announces, she can sense that his spirit is near.
But today is a day of foreboding, the toughest for this grieving wife,
as she reaches to brush golden trumpets, selects one as a gift to his life.
As their arms hold each other in comfort, vision blurred from the tears welling there.
She gains strength from the loved ones who gather, by his graveside to join her in
prayer.
On his casket she places the flower, their symbol of friendship, true love.
Like a beacon the sun begins shining, a message from heaven above.

Beautiful Sue and Daffodils are one of the prettiest flowers I love how their colour seems to bring sunshine into a room. Sure to bring comfort to the MC in your poem.
Cheers

Re: THE MEANING OF DAFFODILS
I think you have done well there Sue.
It's a difficult subject to do well, I think because it's an experience we all can expect to go through and it's hard to find new ways to express what everybody already knows.
I dislike elaborate funerals, I think they should be just a very brief and simple moment by the graveside and that's enough.

Thanks Kym, Maureen and Neville.
Posted this last night, didn't realise how rough line eight was, made a slight change, think it's better suited.

You have captured some lovely thoughts and scenes in your poem Sue. For me it is daphne. It reminds me of my grandmother.
