BALL BOYS

By tackles of cruelness the players are falling
and out of the big stand I hear the crowd calling.
They live in the hope that their highly paid bruisers,
touch the ball down as the winners; not losers.
Through gaps in defenders and dodging their clawing
struggles the halfback; he's over ! he's scoring !!
And louder than thunder ( but nothing like singing )
the cheers of supporters are roaring and ringing.

(apologies to Henry Kendall )

Fabulous Neville I love it and not a bell bird to be heard  You are a clever man

He breaks through the line – strong legs pumping with power
and throws himself over on grass damp from showers
then raises his head with a grin, hears the singing
of applause and cheering inside his ears ringing.

cheers

Maureen
