A Bunch of Fives ...

Post by manfredvijars » Wed Sep 07, 2011 3:47 pm

A bunch of five short pieces plucked from my Collection ...

Enjoy ... :)

Coffee
(May – 2006)

Would you join me sometime for a brew or some wine
.... (espresso with cream is my vice)
and talk about this and laugh about that
.... and lift each the other - so nice?

And sit for a while sharing music and smile -
.... as brief or as long as you will
to breath in free air as adults and share -
.... we can jest you and I, what a thrill.

If you're so inclined - call me back, would you mind?
.... my number's at end of this note
If you think I'm a jerk or some rabid Berk
.... please ignore everything that I wrote.

Use-by Date – Part two
(February 2009)

The cut was surgically precise
with no blood letting – swift and neat;
and hardened eyes look back at me.
(they once were tender, soft and sweet).

I heard your hurried business tone
and felt your callous disregard.
Those sparks of warmth that flickered through
were quickly quelled – you’re on your guard.

Indifference in your tone belies
engaging laughter we once shared;
What did I do, how did I fail?
The ending caught me unprepared.

The mirror's staring back at me
with failure's consummated face.
My use-by date is in those eyes –
Oh, how I'm missing your embrace.

Wisps of Words
(July 2008)

Wisps of words, in docile flight
Mottled contexts spreading blight
Fluttering from mouth to ear -
.... their true intent disguising

Cheery grins and slaps on backs
Obscuring reasons for attacks
Appearing to be most sincere -
.... your downfall they're devising

Catching words - something's amiss
Here with your guide by the abyss
You're in good hands naught to fear -
.... the ambush was surprising

Wisps of words, in docile flight
Mottled contexts spreading blight
Fluttering from mouth to ear -
.... their true intent disguising

Blossomings
(June – 2007)

'Twas just a wee sip of delicious ambrosia
.... from a cup that is truly top shelf
and the warming sensation couldn't be cosier -
.... so much better than thinking of self.

Revived long dim memories of richness of being
.... while travelling on paths that are shared;
and with the awakening I'm suddenly seeing
.... fertile possibilities - paired.

Ahh, warm each the other to share loads, and lighten
.... those trials we encounter while here.
Already your presence lifts me and you brighten
.... my day with mellifluous cheer.

---

Prattle
(May – 2007)

Tittle tattle let's share prattle
.... revel in our gossiping.
With that prattle let's do battle
.... see what fun such mischief brings.

In fine fettle at the kettle
.... we can make back-stabbing shine.
Stings like nettle - never settle
.... who else can we undermine

Don't empower make folks cower
.... best way to divide and rule
Fill each hour with what's sour
.... we learned this in Kindie school.

Thanks Manfred. Enjoyed all five very much. Proves a poem does not have to be long to convey a message or a story.

They are fine Manfred. Very good. I like the way you have used some word plays, especially the internal rhymes in Prattle.
I think that the second one is the best poem.

Some of our friends will have to get their Funk & Wagnalls for " mellifluous "

" Prose is description, poetry is presence " Les Murray.
