POT POURRI
A drift of dried rose petals cascaded down
to the floor boards on which she was sitting,
in the attic surrounded by dusty accoutrement's
dust sheeted as was only fitting.
The air here was hot and dry in the throat
and a cobweb swung lazily by
as unnoticed, she rummaged deep in the chest
unaware of how quickly time flies.
She opened the book to see pale pretty pictures
of ladies of times now long past,
yellowed pages riffled and fluttered - disturbed
by an unprecedented cold blast.
She gasped in surprise as the old door slammed tight,
and she jumped to her feet full of fright.
Withered rose petals fell from a wedding bouquet,
drifted down in the fading of light.
Long forgotten memories in the box of shadows
disturbed by an innocent hand,
and under the book was a beautiful thing -
a diamond encrusted wedding band.
And lingering, longingly, wraith like and wispy
in the depths of the attics dark corners,
was the ghost of the bride who had never been wed
in the church - just surrounded by mourners.
