SAME MIRROR - DIFFERENT REFLECTION

Two cultures standing side by side that don’t walk hand in hand.
Two cultures that are poles apart though both in the same land.
Two cultures – a diversity of many different things
from which we seem to glean the best to make our country sing.

Two cultures – one is black one white – ivory and ebony,
and who’s to say which one is right? Why not choose harmony?
Are we really so different? I think not - we are all kin
the only visible difference is the colour of our skin.

Naked we come into this world – the same the whole world over.
We live we die – all just the same – the games over Red Rover.
Some think by Angels they’re transported through the sky to the heaven
whilst others hear ancestors call, see Dreamtime Serpent beckon.

I’m over all the hate and fear that race relations brings
and wish that we could as a world embrace the simpler things.
See beauty every day at dawn – the dawn that we all share
be thankful for the Mothers gifts for which we all must care.

A child’s smile is a child’s smile, be you yellow, black or white.
That gummy look, that missing tooth, the look of sheer delight
when their eyes fall on a butterfly flitting from tree to tree.
I doubt they give a thought to their racial diversity?

Kids see things in a simple way and we should do the same.
Treat others as you would yourself, just smile, call folk by name.
Aim to spread a little kindness as you travel on your way
and try to make a difference but do it every day.

Perhaps it’s the minutiae that we should be embracing
rather than the big decisions that the whole world now is facing .
The little things in life are far far simpler to extol,
they’re the glue that sticks – the glue that joins and makes our country whole.
