Rain, rain and more rain
This was how I fancied the end of years of drought might be. Hmmm...if only.
Sweet, Sweet Rain © Will Moody 2010
Drip...drip...dripping
from the tips of laden leaves.
Drip...drip...dripping
from the ends of sodden sleeves.
Drip...drip...dripping
from the fuzz of new-born lambs.
Drip...drip...dripping
from the grey skies into dams.
Drip...drip...dripping
on the dry and dusty sand.
Sweet, sweet rain is
bringing new life to the land.
Drum...drum...drumming
out a steady rhythmic beat.
Splash...splash...splashing
under laughing children's feet.
Drip...drip...rippling
in the gullies, creeks and streams.
Plop...plop...topping
up the tanks and troughs and dreams.
But for every rainy season,
long dry drought will bring it's pain,
while we wait and pray
and long to see the sweet, sweet rain.
Well, we've got our floaties, flippers and snorkels and tomorrow we head off into the sodden west. If we don't get marooned somewhere between here and Hay, I'll (water)log back on in a couple of weeks. Wish us luck. (Maybe I should get an eperb?)
Cheers, Will.

Great poem very dropical - have a great holiday Mate, stay safe and I think a boat might be a good idea --maybe one of those rubber ducky type of things.
Cheers

Love the simple picture you've painted here Will ...
Don't get swept away in the Yule(tide) (Sail)ebrations ...
Keep Safe .... M.

Happy sailing.
Hope you don't come back with webbed feet, that can be murder with the rubber thongs.

G'day all...
Thanks for the comments and "bon voyages"
As you may have deduced, we are back home earlier than we expected. Conditions dictated a reduced itinerary, and we were forced to abandon the second part of our trip to Mudgee on the way back from Hay. At least we were able (via numerous detours) to attend the wife's uncle's 80th birthday. A bit worrying to hear that roads we had just traversed were being closed behind us, but we managed to get home relatively safe and dry. Heart-breaking to see bumper crops flattened though. A lot of people besides farmers and graziers affected too. The operator of one caravan park we stopped at overnight said that the park would be evacuated the day we left and he expected to be out of business for three weeks at least. Other tourism operators will likely have a poor Christmas as well.
Huey, give us a break mate!
Cheers, Will.

Hey Will,
When we were in Cairns in August I saw thongs that had a 'thong' between every two toes. That is instead on one 'thong' to grip the sole with there were four. I bet they would double as flippers. I also bet they cause hellish blisters.

Hi Zondrae...
Sound like 'high-performance' thongs...probably good for high-speed cornering or off-road trekking. I can see the ad campaign now...
"Going bush? When the going gets rough, you'll need our 4x4 thongs for extra grip. 4 things on each thong mean you won't be thorry!"
Cheers, Will.

Re: Rain, rain and more rain
Hope that Zondraes info was correct and that they were the feet type and not the underwear type. That doesn't bear thinking about, although they could double in this wet weather as a sail and rigging - maybe not - the wind collection area would be too small
Cheers
