I THOUGHT I WAS AN IRIS

I THOUGHT I WAS AN IRIS

I came across a photo of two Ibis on a tree
and sitting beside them were two turtles you could see.
The photograph was quirky but what really cracked me up
was the caption - for it seemed that someone had been sold a pup.

The caption said – and here I do relay what was written
I think I am an Iris with two tuttles. I was smitten.
Quite overcome with laughter, I found that funny as could be
but it emphasised importance of correct spelling to me.

I visualized two Iris as purple and pinky flowers
standing at attention – a parade that lasts for hours.
Two Tuttles – married folks perhaps? Perused the flowers in bloom,
a picture very far removed from the one in my room.

As poets we paint pictures with our words and they must be
correct, if we expect others to share the imagery.
But seems that even photographs though quite clear can still lie.
I wonder how hard it must be for an Iris to fly.

I don't think this site I have discovered sets out to be deliberately funny and I know my sense of humour is warped but if you don't fancy being an iris would you like to play crotchet in the garden? Look at the lovely jacket you could make for yourself.
