Reflections on the Nature of the Universe, and its Centre.

Stephen Whiteside 09.05.2012

How handy the night is, for always I know
That when I'm asleep there is nothing on show;
Only the star-light, and maybe the moon;
To all of Humanity, oh, what a boon!

How wonderful, too, that each night I must sleep,
I lie for eight hours with nary a peep.
How dull it would be if I stayed up all night,
Yearning and aching for first morning light.

Sleeping and night-time, night-time and kip.
They form a snug fit like the teeth of a zip.
But here is a notion that makes me feel small.
Maybe it's not about humans at all?

Well, I don't really know, Neville, but the narrator of the poem seemed to think there was. You'd have to ask him, I guess. Sorry, though. I don't have his contact details.

Nicely written Stephen, although besides humans, I don't see any other creatures writing the history of our time here. lol

And the more I read it the more I am going to panic one night in the bush, watching the sky and a kangaroo comes and sits beside me and starts writing notes as well!!

Well, I guess it's more about thinking than writing, but who's to say the night is more for kangaroos than humans? I don't suppose it's for either of us really. (It's more for koalas and emus.)

Maybe it's for Vogons. Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect might help you there. :o ;)

G/day Stephen,
Perhaps we have aliens visiting us at night.
Shutting my mind of at night is often my trouble, not so much up the bush where I'm usually so tired I go to sleep,
but when I'm home I'm often a very poor sleeper.

Cheers Terry
