A story from your neck of the woods Bob (Pacey)
Melody from the Masts
No trip to Emu Park is complete without a look
at the Singing Ship, there to honour Captain Cook.
Built in Nineteen Seventy, almost to the day,
two hundred years since Cook discovered Keppel Bay.
Perched upon a headland, its presence quite serene
though on our recent visit, the wind was truly mean.
Thirty knot soueaster, howling o’er the sea,
ideal for the ship to sing, the notes in perfect key.
The pipes which form the masts, fabricating sound,
a melody surreal, a chorus all around.
We heard it at its best with nature the artiste
providing an unaffected entertainment feast.
And there’s no cost for entry to see and hear this show,
all that is needed is for the wind to blow,
a novel exhibition, ship singing like a lark,
lasting in the memory of a tour to Emu Park.
