Remember When

Remember When
I remember back when I was young
my life was oh so sweet.
Days filled with fun and laughter
good times so hard to beat.
But somewhere things got mixed up
and the world got really strange.
My innocence just disappeared
and things just seemed to change.
Sweets gave way to cigarettes
'Cause to smoke was just so cool.
Then beer replaced that cool soft drink
why was I such a fool.
Sweet kisses suddenly meant sex
my hormones were abused.
Protection then was just a word
my mind felt so confused.
Girls and boys looked different
and their clothing did not match;
and cooties crawling in your hair
were the worse thing you could catch.
Race wars were on the sporting track
no thought of colour or of creed.
The only high I knew was on a swing
castor oil the only drug we'd need.
War was just a backyard game
played outside in the sun and dirt.
we played for hours with wooden guns
and nobody got hurt.
Oh how things have changed since then
life just got so difficult.
The most disturbing thing of all
I could not wait to be an adult.
