THE BOOK
I had a nice surprise today; a friend had shared with me
some words that he had put together. Beautiful to see
the pictures he had taken in the bush - wild, unconstrained.
Of places most folks never go. Some, old secrets retained.
A gift like this is beyond price, it’s tangible and real
and when the doldrums really hit a minute I will steal
to walk the bush that this bloke walked, although vicariously
and smell the smoke from wood fires that his words described to me.
I read of this man’s walk through life and every word he wrote
within me seemed to strike a chord – an anvil this bloke smote
whose ringing echoed in my brain and how I wished to be
living the life this bushman does, unfettered, happy, free.
And riches in this life I’ve found are not bought from a store.
They are the gifts folks freely give - time, comfort, help and more,
and as our Springs and Summers pass and Autumn creeps behind
these memories of kindnesses will always come to mind.

Re: THE BOOK
Good on ya Maureen. I like that last stanza particularly, that's very well done.
