Un-Australian ?

Post by Neville Briggs » Sun Aug 05, 2012 8:13 am

UN-AUSTRALIAN

An un-Australian Aussie,
un-Australian's what he is.

He's sure , beloved pies and sauce
are gluggy fatty toxin.
To him, beer tastes of murky swill
that someone washed their socks in.
He won't go slouched in tracky dacks
won't flop in plastic thongs.
His ear is not attuned to those
rock bands or country songs.

He thinks that green and gold make up
a clashing combination.
He thinks Olympic medals are
NOT treasure for our nation,
and " oi, oi, oi " sounds something like
a trained seal affectation.

If medal winners stand to hear
" Advance Australia Fair",
he won't be flushed with tribal pride
or moved to shed a tear.
An un-Australian Aussie bloke,
however that may be;
but nonetheless, a heartfelt man
with perspicacity.

' IF ' it is a comment on our current Olympic situation ?

We must remember, most have trained hard and long and strived to do their best in most cases.

I for one, congratulate them.
Jim.

Your Mum is right Ross ;) ...... who said it was about me ?

True Maureen, I have no interest in olympic sports. But again, please don't assume that it is about me.

It was meant to be a poem and a parable about shallowness, mediocrity and conformity, but I'm not a writer in the same league as Robert Frost. ;) besides I wear trackies all the time and sometimes been known to devour a pie and sauce with gusto.

Hi Neville,
I reckon we should leave our athletes alone,
and if we have to have a go at someone,
why not the faceless people who run the show,
I reckon the buck stops there.

Not that you were necessarily having a go at anyone in particular Neville.

Regards Terry

Manfred, it was Robert Frost who wrote so powerfully about taking the way less travelled.
Both Robert Frost and the Aussie poets share the thing that has transcended so many nationalistic boundaries; The English language.
Anyway we now have a minister in the federal cabinet who is " Minister for Social Inclusion " so we can include Americans, no worries mate. :)

Wasn't having a go at athletes Terry. ;) :)
