My Dreamtime

Post by r.magnay » Sun Aug 05, 2012 8:55 am

An old one I just dredged up, some may have seen it but maybe some haven't...and yes Neville, I know I refer to "Mother Nature".....it fits better than "...the phenomenon we refer to as nature!"... ;)

“MY DREAMTIME”

© Ross Magnay 8/6/06

I’m the spirit of the outback; red dust is in my veins,
I am the rugged mountains, the droughts and flooding rains.
I am the trees and flowers; I’m the rivers and the sea,
the fires and the famines they are all a part of me.

I am the whole worlds’ animals of feather, scale or hair,
from in the sea or on the earth and those up in the air.
I am the ones that long have gone, I’m those still yet to be,
everything this old earth has, it all belongs to me.

I am the ruler of the land, of all that I survey,
no matter what you try to do, I’ll have the final say.
And you will never beat me though for centuries you’ve tried,
I am the reason you have laughed and so too you have cried.

I scorn your false religions that give cause to kill and fight,
you try and prove to all the world that your beliefs are right,
and still you worship idols, and things you cannot see;
while everything since time began is all a part of me.

I am the one who started time; I’ll be here when it ends,
and you can be my enemies or you can be my friends,
but if you choose to shun me that won’t bother me at all,
for I am mother nature and I’ll make the final call!

That is beautiful Ross and so true - we should all try to work with the Mother not against her - for we can never harness all her strength or beat her at her own game, but we can benefit from the gifts she offers if we accept them with the right spirit.

This is a lovely poem - a keeper.

Cheers

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

G/day Ross

A lot of truth in that mate, and we still haven't learned a thing.

And I can't talk either, we've been dry blowing, which apart from
being a filthy job, scars the earth for years to come. To be honest
I feel quite guilty about it.

I have been trying to write something about it but have been flat out
getting ready to leave again tomorrow.

Cheers Terry

Being a green 'City Boy', the term dry blowing caught my attention.

What the heck does it mean ?

Dynamite for Dunnies !!!

Jim.

How come I get a mention Ross

The poem works well, I'll leave the content for others to figure out. ;) :)

It's okay now Terry.

My question was resolved in another thread - modern method of diggin' for gold, not holes for dunnies.

Does anyone remember gelignite Jack and Redex Trials ?

I will say this Ross, it's interesting that you characterise the " phenomenon we refer to as nature " as personal, a personality. Over the centuries this personalising of nature seems to have had a strong hold on human thought. Even the planets and the galaxies and constellations have been given personal names. :)

Yeah, sure do Jim, and therein lies a few tales. Using a bit of Geli' certainly didn't worry Jack!
A good poem Ross, with a lot of meaning. For sure ecology is going to be the great leveler.(mother ecology that is :) )
And Matt, yeah always thought you might have been a bugger of a kid!
