Funny you should re post this one Manfred, I was thinking about this very poem a few days ago, I was driving around town when a country song came on the radio.....(Dunno how that happened on a classical music station Neville.. ) anyway, the song had distinct Australian lyrics but sounded like a Yank singing it! I am not even sure who was singing it....might have been a Yank!.... 8-) . I know a few people burred up last time you posted this poem, but once again I must agree with you mate.....I like a lot of American country music, but I like my Australian country music to sound Australian!

Perhaps this is on topic ?
I am a regular Macca listener on Sundy mornin's and enjoy his stuff.

Last Sunday I am sure he was berating those who wear 'caps' ( I assumed the one mostly turned backward ), then within a few minutes he was regaling a country style song, sung with a southern twang, as being terrific.

Have I misunderstood him all these years, or just this one occassion ?
Any thoughts please.
Jim.

...I stopped listening to Macca years ago Jim, I think he started to believe his own advertising, it all seemed to be about Macca....I don't know if it is still like that because I stopped tuning in to him........actually, these days I listen to the country music program that is on the local station on Sunday mornings... 8-)

Me too on both counts ... stopped listening to Macca and now it's Pixie's Bush Breakfast - Bush poets and balladeers and great Australian country music on the NIRS Network... :o)

... and thanks for that Ross! Like you, I believe there's nothing wrong with our accent! In fact I'm proud of it!!!

If Aussies want to participate in that market - go over there and participate (I am a fan of Keith Urban) .

But if you want to be in THIS 'market' then BE here ... don't go over there (US) and use Nashville based writers to churn out meaningless lyrics relating to seppo culture that's sung by insecure (mon)stars with a cultural cringe (Lee and his ilk)...

Utes Are Out
(January 2007)

An Aussie blonde, sweet looking girl -
.... and singer of renown
seems to think 'home-grown' is bad
.... in spite of 'Aussie' crown.

Produces records overseas;
.... with foreign labour too -
our local talent's overlooked.
.... (Her records feign True Blue).

So take our cash, that's quite alright
.... but here's what really irks -
Aussie 'Blokes in Utes' are out
.... what's in, is "Men in Trerks"!

(sorry Melinda, not a fan anymore)
