A Bit of King Arthur in Me
A Bit of King Arthur in Me
© Stephen Whiteside 15.09.2012
We all come from elements. That’s where we go
When we die, and we’re buried in coffins below;
Or cremated. Our chemicals wander quite free.
There’s a bit of King Arthur in me.
But he lived his life back a thousand odd years.
Wrong hemisphere, too. Have I scrambled my gears?
You say it’s not possible, say it can’t be
There’s a bit of King Arthur in me.
But, think for a moment. His water and stuff,
His carbon, trace elements, all of that fluff,
It had to go somewhere. I’m not off my tree.
There’s a bit of King Arthur in me.
Perhaps it arrived with the convicts of old.
They brought some King Arthur. It made them feel bold
As they made their sad voyages over the sea.
There’s a bit of King Arthur in me.
Or maybe the currents that circle the world
With the waves and the tides and the howling winds hurled
Some atoms, some fragments to such a degree...
There’s a bit of King Arthur in me.
All that I know is the way that I feel.
It feels very likely. It seems very real.
I’m guided by notions of fine chivalry.
I’m influenced greatly by grand history.
I’m brave. I am bold. I’ve a fine pedigree.
There’s a bit of King Arthur in me.

I think you're right Stephen. When I consider the cycle of water, I wonder if that glass of water I had for lunch was once the contents of Napoleon's loo.
Water from Napoleon's loo...yes...yes ..get it..
Oh never mind ...

Yes, it probably was, Neville - well, a little bit of it, anyway.

No argument from me Stephen - perfectly logical IMO - Clever poem as well - No doubt you will get some responses from those with Cleopatras DNA - Queens of denial

Yes, very well done with the verse Stephen.
If King Arthur was merely a mythical figure then you might have to revise the theory.
A good one for the children to learn the first law of thermodynamic ? Matter is neither destroyed or created, it changes from one form to another ( or something like that ).
Do you think you could manage ..There's a bit of the Alpha Centauri in Me ?

Thanks Maureen, Neville.
Alpha Centauri? Interesting idea. The rhythm would need to be changed considerably. Astral winds, perhaps?

....methinks Guinevere was the most qualified to claim this...
