DIGGING UP THE DIRT ON DICK

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Wed Sep 19, 2012 4:46 pm

Some news of a different kind

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-wo ... ng-1321270

THEY DUG UP DIRTY DICK - Did you hear the news

Did you hear about King Richard? Seems they dug the old bloke up
from beneath a car park somewhere out near Leicester.
He wasn’t taking up much room, most folks were unaware
that his medieval bones were there to fester.

It seems a metal arrow was still lodged deep in his spine.
Puts a different slant upon metal detecting.
Perhaps they thought they’d discovered some buried treasure there
I doubt old Dick was what they were expecting.

Forensic tests and xrays tell us he had scoliosis,
his spine it seems was as crooked as he
and now they plan to run some of those DNA type tests
to see if this bloke is real monarchy

He was in battle killed we’re told in fourteen eighty five
at Bosworth. They just wrapped him in a shroud
and buried him au- natural without a coffin dark,
hardly a burial to do him proud.

And now a dental visit they are subjecting Dick to
just pulling out a molar here and there.
This made the news in Scotland but it didn’t make it here
so one presumes that Aussies really just don’t care.

But now the tests are all confirmed and the body is Dick
with a hole in his skull for all to see.
The powers that be decided it was best to leave him there
A car park grave for long dead monarchy.

Commuters have parked with kings on the Grey Friars old plot
but now King Dick is set to move away
to be buried with honours in a more exalted spot
at Leicester Cathedral so they say.

And cousin Liz may well attend, but then again may not
some protocol no doubt will be in place.
The last of the Plantaganets, a Shakespeare character
will finally have rest in state of grace.

How do they know it is "him" ?

I'm glad you put the last line in Maureen, might just have just saved yourself from the charge of...not on an Australian theme.

Yes, I saw it on an Australian web-site, Maureen. ABC, I think. Fascinating, isn't it? Bit of a cultural disjunction between a modern day carpark and Richard III. Not what you'd expect, really. It was 1485, though, not 1845.

In the Mount Moffatt section of the Central Tablelands, West of Carnarvon Gorge, there's a place referred to as Kenniff's Cave. Kenniff was a murdering bastard, but that's beside the point. The cave is above a beautiful gully and all along the top of this gully are rocky overhangs where many of the overhangs contain rock paintings. Reminds me of an Aboriginal portrait gallery.

Kenniff's cave had been continually inhabited for over 40,000 years ... so tell your Pommie mates to stick that in their pizzicato and strum it - 400 years Pffffttt ... :D

... even if it was half that, it's still a darn sight longer the a piddling (alleged) 400 hundred years ... :D

I read the latest news on King Richards remains and so added to my original poem - seems his body was actually found under the old toilet block :o Now Australians are sure to say that it just goes to show that old Dick was really in deep sh** when they found him
