I posted two poems earlier this year about my beleagured tooth No 17 and it's root canal treatment, both before and after. This poem advises that "The Saga Continues"
The Saga Continues
As I may have mentioned, I’ve had trouble with my tooth
seventeen – it’s staggered through a really shocking year.
Root canal, part chipped off, a slow demise in truth
of a treasured fang that I’ve held dear.
Another sad episode transpired while on a flight
from Brisbane to Bangkok when all was fine
until seventeen erupted midway through a bite
of Thai noodles and a sip of shiraz wine.
The filling from the root canal had come adrift big time,
landing with a splash in the wine glass,
indicating maybe that this tooth was past its prime
and possibly, “its time” had come to pass.
This feeling was confirmed next day
at Bangkok Airport eating foot long Sub.
One whole side of seventeen from gum did break away,
what was left could join a singles club.
A solemn farewell service was held for what was gone
as it slowly slid down Subway’s rubbish bin
along with empty coke can, that half of molar shone
its new found graveyard friends declaring, “come on in”.
So, back to dentist once again, my second home it seems
first stop on returning to Australia,
the ever lasting memory from the trip which filled my dreams
is that seventeen’s root canal has been a total failure.
I’ll give more donation to his kids’ education,
with nerve in my hip pocket to feel pain,
this time though, I’ll make a stipulation,
never ever mention the words root canal again.

Re: THE SAGA CONTINUES
You made an error Jeff old mate
should have got that tooth fixed
in Bangkok – with the money saved
you’d have stayed at the Ritz.
And all your pain would be much less
in both pocket and mouth
the dentists there are gentle souls -
no need to head back south.
Hope you are recovered by now. My son and DIL always get their dental work done in Thailand when they go there. Their last trip included a scale and clean for them both with 2 large fillings for my son at a huge cost of $8 Australian for the two of them. It was according to them a completely painless experience in all ways
Cheers

I wish Maureen. Only there overnight and then on to Croatia where I had the strife with the truffles. You could say my mouth had an eventful holiday.

Re: THE SAGA CONTINUES
...one would have to wonder what other cheap services they get in Thailand....
Personally I can never understand the way people think, if Quantas get their planes serviced overseas everone says how un-Australian it is to get work done over there when we have people here that can do it, the local practitioner, who employs local people, pays rates or rent on local premises, probably gets hit up for untold donations to all sorts of charities, clubs etc., pays taxes here and is just around the corner to attend to the emergencies that can't wait until next year when we go on holidays..........is too expensive!

Funny you should say that Ross cause i was thinking the same ? Just finished $ 8000 of dental work earlier this year and more than happy with the result and any problems have been fixed immediatly.
Oh i think the nurse likes me she keeps rubbing my hand while the dentist is working ?

Yes I am also loath to go out of Australia for any work like this even though my son assures me they are very good and I could have a weeks holiday with the change - I prefer to spend my money what there is of it here
