HEY ABBOTT!

Post by Neville Briggs » Fri Oct 12, 2012 1:26 pm

Following Dennis's take on the Leader of the Opposition , a recycled old one of mine reflecting on Tony Abbott's future if he doesn't win the next election.

HEY ABBOTT!

One little pollie quite contrary
trained in the brothers' seminary,
filling the shoes of legendary
Ming, the blue blood functionary.

Now he'll face the adversary;
Julia ( plus commissary )
Tony's mob are fragmentary,
leader's crown but temporary.

Lots of voters might be wary
of the Abbott, quite contrary.
If the voters ordinary
place his party secondary;
down the chute is customary.

Point taken Stephen...but that's rare I reckon. And what was ''it time'' for?...to chuck out the other mob. Roll on the day when the CWA runs the country.

Hellooo Neville! Shades of ''The Mikado'' methinks? Quite clever me old mate.

Yes Glenny, a bit of the old G&S ( or is that g&t :lol: ).

William Gilbert was a great political satirist, probably why he didn't get the knighthood like Arthur Sullivan ; too close to the upper class bone .
Gilbert was also a great poet I think. That tends to get overlooked in the predominance of the music.
One of my favourite G & S is about poets, it's called Patience. There's a fantastic version of this on an ABC DVD with Anthony Warlow, Denis Olsen and the late Heather Begg.

Point taken, Glenny. Whitlam didn't really do anything, did he? One of the all-time bench warmers!

Look out!......Hope we don't stray into religion now....

Hey. I had an 'up close & personal' with old Gough one time. It was at the opening of the Arthur Streeton Art show at the Qld Gallery. I bailed him & Dean Wells up & waxed lyrical for a few minutes. It was a tough gig. Alright for Dingo Dryden as he just wandered around playing his guitar & singing....non intrusive like. But poor me!! I had to barge in on little clusters of the hoighty-toity & interrupt their chat with my rollicking verse. A tad daunting...(& rather rude I thought, but what's a girl to do?)
Gough suffered me for a minute or two. Mr Wells seemed more intrigued. From memory I think I was reciting some pollie bashing poem....oh dear. He's a very BIG bloke....almost as big as his missus! (My brother used to say she could kick start a Jumbo Jet....oh dear.)
Goodo then... ;)

Marty - yes, I was joking, in response to Glenny's comment that Gough did nothing other than chuck out 'the other mob'!
