Life's Disappointments

I wrote this in a reflective moment when I was feeling a bit down...
Life's Disappointments
There's no point regretting what I might have been
If I lived my life over again
But I envy risk-takers; those people who've seen
Adventures beyond those of the pen.
What held me back was the courage to fly
Beyond the bounds of my home;
The walls that enclosed me I saw as too high
And I missed any chances to roam.
So focused was I on adhering to rules
And conventions one must not defy:
Marriage, security, children and schools
That excitement just passed me by.
There are so many things I'd like to have done
And knowledge that I might have gleaned;
Thrills untasted that would have been fun
But life, real life intervened.
Life's Disappointments

If I lived my life over again
But I envy risk-takers; those people who've seen
Adventures beyond those of the pen.
What held me back was the courage to fly

And I missed any chances to roam.
