A Sea Change
The time has come around for me, to make my move toward the sea,
Away from desert hills and plains, the sunny days, infrequent rains,
To cooler days beside the sea, no more termite mounds for me,
Not too much work, at least I hope, (I’m sure I’ll learn somehow to cope!)
I think though I will miss the space, the red dust plastered on my face,
Sunny days and clear blue skies, (I doubt I’ll miss the bloody flies)
Roadtrains out on dusty roads, the thunder cloud when it explodes,
Brumbies in the desert oak, the ranges sometimes clad in smoke,
The corrugations I won’t miss, I guarantee I’m sure of this,
Sunsets painting desert skies, up there where the eagle flies,
Red ‘roos bounding ‘cross the plains and flowers after desert rains,
The things I’ve lived with for so long, perhaps dictate where I belong,
But I will move down to the sea….’cause that is where I want to be!
