...what does it mean?
An austrich with a peanut in its pocket.
An interlectual that's wanting wool.
A cashew in the cap of Davey Crockett.
A bulldust barrel looking damn near full.
A bullock with a Chrissy hat and bon bon,
Chewing cud, and mooing Chrissy songs;
Hauling wool from Warragul to Won Wron.
A drover with a tatty pair of thongs.
Some broccoli that's on the verge of wilting.
A packhorse that is short of three days' feed.
A world that's heating up, a balance tilting.
A sheep with broken back that's licking weed.
Brazil nuts that have had too many waxes.
Almonds in my undies once again.
Constants: Father Christmas, death and taxes,
Farmers wanting more - or less - of rain.
Souless, parasitic city slickers.
Heroes of the Outback and the Bush.
Uni types whose chests don't have no tickers.
Speaks direct - a king hit in the moosh.
Refugees that face prolonged detention;
"No advantage" - who would grant them that?
Past events it's better not to mention,
Safe beneath a worn Akubra hat.
Blessed, of course, to live in God's Own Country.
Now's the time to celebrate the myth.
Gather by the decorated fun tree,
Sharing good stuff with your kin and kith.
Whisper to your loved ones, 'Merry Christmas!'
Shudder at the shadowed 'might have been'.
The 'Haves', the 'Don't Haves', and the narrow isthmus
Connecting them, and ask...what does it mean?
