New Year's Day

NEW YEAR'S DAY

Last year, a lot of things I hoped to do,
but can't go back, and make correction to
the gains and faults that fall behind so fast;
that year is just the mind that thinks the past.

The most enduring moments pass away;
so soon to-day becomes but yesterday.
What's now, is briefly seen, then turns to flee.
When do the days become a memory ?

Ahead the path unseen; another year
on trust. A world existing as idea.
Not yet to leave behind the nevermore,
nor yet to see what lasts for evermore.
