Well front page of the paper today the almighty dollar won out.

Approval given for the full developement of the island under the treat that the developer would pull the pin on the lot if the marina and golf course were not approved.

When both the State and Federal Government is so strapped for cash I reckon we could not expect much more.

The revised $600 million proposal includes a 250-suite hotel at Fisherman's Island, which would have a 250-berth marina that could be open by late 2014.

Later stages would include 750 villas, which would have enough roof-top solar panels to provide power to the mainland grid.

Holidaymakers would be able to fly to its private airstrip from Brisbane, Sydney and Cairns.

A Greg Norman-designed golf course and 300 apartments are also on the drawing board.

Repost.

Great Keppel Island.

Have you gazed upon its crystal waters?
On a clear bright summers day?
Have you trekked its many walkways?
Made the hike to see Clam Bay?

Heard the sand squeak as you wander
Along it’s beaches far and wide.
Or watched the dolphins as they frolic
With the changing of the tide.

Have you seen the vista from the headland?
As the sun sets in the west.
Have you sat quietly in the darkness?
As a turtle made its nest.

Have you watched the sun arising?
Over a golden beach at morn?
Or heard the seabirds calling
As they herald the coming dawn.

Have you looked into it’s history
it’s first inhabitants to trace ?
Woppaburra tells their story
for some their final resting place

Have you swum amongst the creatures
Who call its crystal waters home?
Then became at one with nature
As you sat quietly in the foam.

A place of untold mystery
Far from the cities hectic race.
Where you can recharge worn out batteries
and find that special tranquil place.

A natural wonder land of beauty
carved by mother natures guiding hand
But it could all be gone and lost forever
if we fail to make a stand.

The world, she is a changing Bob, and not always for the better. I've had that sand squeak between my toes - it's the single thing I remember about Great Keppel.

I'm sure people who visit there will respond to advertising that invites them to visit a great natural wonder.

People have short memories, This company Tower Holdings is the same one who closed the original resort after they brought it, then just left everything there to rot. They

The statement has been that they will create a resort that will be better than nature !

Most people that I have spoken to realise that developement has to happen but it is the size that is alarming. a Marina, a golf course as well as the resort.

Yep Marty the old resort focused on the younger age group "Get wrecked on Great Keppel" was the catch cry.

They still have the native owners to contend with so the fight is not completly over yet but to me it is just another real estate developement.
