I Want To Build A Windmill

I Want To Build A Windmill
I want to build a windmill,
A water tank as well.
Perhaps a little trough at which
A passing horse might spell
In my small suburban garden
Where the horns and sirens blare.
Yes, I want a hint of yesterday
Just waiting for me there.
I will still have my computer.
I will still have my TV.
I will still have all the trappings
Of this slick society,
Where there's sushi on the corner,
Where there's pizza up the street,
Where the bitumen beats daily
To a thousand padding feet;
Where the traffic races swiftly
Through the evening and dawn,
Where the washers wash the duco,
Where the mowers mow the lawn,
But the magpies keep on singing
And the bats fly overhead,
Which shows that Nature's rhythms
In this town are not quite dead,
And to them I'll add my windmill,
And my little water tank,
And I'll sit beneath the star-light,
And I'll wonder who to thank.
