Long time no post...

Just changed a few things around. I think it flows better now.

Bygone Days

When I see the kids around me keeping up with life's demands
Their eyes intent, their small backs bent, their iPods in their hands
My mind harks back to yesteryear when we were young and free
And summer days were full of fun and games for you and me -
Hiding in the back yard, trying not to make a sound
Listening for stealthy steps, hoping you're the last one found
Or galloping, whooping, shooting, acting out what we'd just seen
In movies, black and white of course, upon the silver screen
Or lying in the long grass, gazing up into the sky
Just dreaming, making castles of the clouds there, drifting by.
The thrills and spills, the risks we took with wildly beating hearts
While racing madly down the hill in home-made billycarts.
Our hurts were quickly mended with a Band-Aid and a kiss
Oh, these children are entirely unaware of what they miss.

Children aren't the ones missing those carefree days Marion.
Love the sentiments ... :)

Me too Marion. Let kids be kids i reckon. We have no see-saws or swings in our local park any more - the kids might hurt themselves!

What a nostalgic poem. I can relate to all it says along with other respondents. Does this say something about our membership?
Thanks for posting.

Your poem certainly conjured up some happy memories for me too Marion. We had 'the bush' close to my family home and the adventures it was home to kept me entertained weekend after weekend. A lovely nostalgic piece Marion.

I think the current generations of the past 20 years have had the most deprived childhoods in so many ways. They have never known the pleasure of unfettered and unsupervised play time on beaches and creek banks etc. They have forgotten how to use their legs for exploring anywhere as they have to be ferried to and from every activity. Their communication skills face to face are lacking but they are experts in text speak but lousy at spelling. So many things that give one lifes experience they have missed out on. Very sad.

Good to see you on here again with your thought provoking poem Marion

Cheers

Maureen
